The abyss designate the entire seabed 2,000 meters below the surface of the planet. At this depth there is no light and little food. Yet it is not animals that are lacking. Indeed, the abysses are full of creatures of all kinds. These creatures are as ugly as scary and they could be horror movie stars.

The ogre fish, contrary to what its name suggests, is far from being an enormous beast. In reality, this creature only measures 16 centimeters. But with such a head, 16 centimeters is already too much!

they have the largest teeth of any marine species, with one of their most prominent features being a pair of long anterior fangs in the upper jaw. The length of their teeth prohibits them from completely closing their mouth.

It is native to at least 48 countries across the globe.

A small family of some-what bizarre fish: they are of variable form, but the eyes are usually tubular and directed upward. They tend to be deep-sea fish, rarely exceeding 15 cm in length, and have a cosmopolitan distribution. There are about 11 species.

The deep sea dragonfish, sometimes known as the scaleless dragonfish, is a ferocious predator that inhabits the deep oceans of the world. Known scientifically as Grammatostomias flagellibarba, it has extremely large teeth compared to its body size. In spite of its gruesome appearance, its is a small fish, measuring only about 6 inches (about 15 centimeters) in length. There are several different species of dragonfish. All are very similar in appearance.

The deep sea dragonfish is one of the many species of deep sea fish that can produce its own light through a chemical process known as bioluminescence. The light is produced by a special organ known as a photophore.

The giant squid remains largely a mystery to scientists despite being the biggest invertebrate on Earth. The largest of these elusive giants ever found measured 59 feet (18 meters) in length and weighed nearly a ton (900 kilograms).

However, their inhospitable deep-sea habitat has made them uniquely difficult to study, and almost everything scientists know about them is from carcasses that have washed up on beaches or been hauled in by fishermen.
